How to Apply for a Birth or Death Certificate from Vital Statistics of Texas.
The County Clerk files and maintains all birth and death records for Navarro County. The Navarro County Clerk will only retain death records for individuals who died in Navarro County. Maintenance of birth and death records for the State of Texas begin in 1903. (NOTE: if requesting birth and death records, valid identification is REQUIRED under State Law.)
The County Clerk's Office is NOW on the REMOTE BIRTH ACCESS. If you are a native born Texan, you can get a birth certificate. You no longer have to travel to the state vital statistics office in Austin or vital records office in the county where you were born. A "Short Form" or Abstract Birth Certificate will be issued for counties other than Navarro County. Short Form Birth Certificates may not be accepted for Passport applications.
If you need to obtain a copy of a birth or death certificate and you are a qualified applicant, you will need to fill out an application, provide current photo ID and pay applicable fees. We have several ways that this can be accomplished.
You can use the following link to complete the Birth/Death application form under “Vital records search and copy request” and either:
- Print and mail the completed, notarized application with applicable fees (check or money order), along with a copy of your valid ID or Driver’s license to our office.
- Complete the application online and come with valid ID to pick up Certificate in our office

We also have “Vitals Access” which is an online service where you can complete the application, provide ID and pay for the requested document and when complete, will be mailed to your provided address.
